  • Circle of Art
    Saline Area

    The Circle of Art is a prime example of what happens when community-focused artists and professionals come together. Now in its 7th year, this fundraising collaboration between the Bowe family (owners of Dexter & Saline Picture Frame Co.s), area artists and over 40 volunteers raises money for local nonprofit, the Food Gatherers. In a nutshell, this is what happens: artists donate small pieces of art and the Picture Frame Co. provides free matting. The art is made available for online bidding until the last, celebratory day, when the Saline Picture Frame Co. hosts an all-day silent auction -- and the highest bidders take home the spoils. All proceeds go to fighting hunger -- with the average winning bid for a single piece generating enough money to feed one child three meals a day, for one month. Over the past ssix years, hundreds of established and emerging artists have donated 2,400 + works of art, which have collectively raised over $100,000. Each year, the circle has expanded to include more of everything: artwork, volunteers, art lovers and money raised-- and hopes are high for 2011.
