Former U-M regent Arthur Hill bequeathed $200,000 to the university for the construction of an auditorium for lectures, concerts and other university events. Hill Auditorium could be the ideal site for a signficant corporate meeting because its unique, hemispherical stage allows a speaker to have an intimate rapport with 3500 people. Hill Auditorium's most famous association is with the best performing artists the world has to offer. Since its opening in 1913, this impressive structure has served as a showplace for important debuts from a wide variety of the arts, and also has provided the locale for long relationships between artists and Ann Arbor audiences. With superb acoustics that highlight everything from the softest high notes to the most thunderous climaxes, Hill Auditorium is known and loved throughout the musical world.

  • Power Center for the Performing Arts - University Productions
    Ann Arbor Area

The Power Center for the Performing Arts is our most technically sophisticated performance space. It is a fully functioning theatre able to handle the most complex sales meetings, product roll-outs, and corporate presentations. The three "pitch" meetings to prospective donors for the university's highly successful billion-dollar capital campaign were made in this theatre. Opening in 1971, the Power Center was designed by architects Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo, formerly associates of Eero Saarinen. The theatre's interior was designed by Jo Mielziner, and echoes his work in the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center. The building was designed during a very innovative period in theatrical architecture. Known as "modern classical," the Power Center combines massive concrete columns and mirrored glass with ancient forms. The audience's seating area is modeled after the Greek theatre at Epidarus, while the stage was an experimental combination of proscenium arch and thrust. No seat in the Power Center is more than 80 feet from the stage. The spacious, soaring lobby, which features tapestries by Roy Lichtenstein and Pablo Picasso, is frequently used for receptions and information booths during conferences.

  • Rackham Auditorium - University Productions

Designed in the classical renaissance style by architect William Kapp of the Detroit firm of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, the Rackham Building is considered to be one of the historically significant buildings on campus. The building also contains splendid conference rooms and a 240-seat amphitheatre. The interior of Rackham Auditorium is plush, with beautifully upholstered seating and a gold-leafed ceiling.
