  • Circle of Art
    Saline Area

The Circle of Art is a prime example of what happens when community-focused artists and professionals come together. Now in its 7th year, this fundraising collaboration between the Bowe family (owners of Dexter & Saline Picture Frame Co.s), area artists and over 40 volunteers raises money for local nonprofit, the Food Gatherers. In a nutshell, this is what happens: artists donate small pieces of art and the Picture Frame Co. provides free matting. The art is made available for online bidding until the last, celebratory day, when the Saline Picture Frame Co. hosts an all-day silent auction -- and the highest bidders take home the spoils. All proceeds go to fighting hunger -- with the average winning bid for a single piece generating enough money to feed one child three meals a day, for one month. Over the past ssix years, hundreds of established and emerging artists have donated 2,400 + works of art, which have collectively raised over $100,000. Each year, the circle has expanded to include more of everything: artwork, volunteers, art lovers and money raised-- and hopes are high for 2011. Online bidding is already underway and new art is being received daily. The Circle of Art: Turning Art Into Food Since 2005 - become a part of it

  • Oaken Transformations Sculpture & Poetry Walk
    Outside Washtenaw County

Oaken Transformations Sculpture & Poetry Walk is an out-of-doors art tour, free to the public, dedicated to showcasing work by talented poets and artists with ties to the state of Michigan. Part nature walk, part meditative footpath, part art installation, the tour presents a unique physical space for poetry and a serene setting for sculptural work on consignment. Located in Brighton, Michigan, Oaken Transformations is invested in broadening an already growing arts community in Southeast Michigan. The art walk features renowned sculpture and juried poetry on a half-mile, gently wooded trail in Brighton, Michigan. We have woods and meadows and wetlands and all the nuance in between that could be said to represent post-glacial / post-industrial / southeastern Michigan woodland & with remnants of the rural: in these we begin to explore the many ironies and multi-faceted expressions of the state. If you lower your head to the ground you'll hear an old, strong, wet & windy pulse. Most of the sculptures here are on consignment, on year-long installations, while the poetry will remain indefinitely. We are a public art walk open every weekday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We do not charge admission. The Oaken Transformations Sculpture & Poetry Walk is generously funded by Dr. Fredric Bonine. Special thanks to the Suave Art Foundation, which has also provided much support and wisdom in helping to initially establish Oaken Transformations.
